The Hewlett-Packard MediaSmart Home Server, inspired by the Window’s Home Server platform by Microsoft was recently launched to support customer needs and demands. This very server allows those who personally own both an Apple and a PC, to backup and/or share the same files. Genius, right? Right.

Everybody seems to want a part of the ‘Apple pie’, and more and more companies are grabbing a bite. Hewlett-Packard was able to bite off a bigger piece with the new MediaSmart system. It seems a majority of households these days have both an Apple and a PC somewhere within their home. Being able to share media files between the two has never truly been an accessible option until now. Hewlett-Packard saw the needs of their customers, and delivered.

In now being able to share files such as: music, documents, photos and videos, home networks can combine files between numerous computers at one time. Hewlett-Packard has also made a statement that Apple iTunes will not be left out of the mix. Sharing Apple iTunes with the MediaSmart Home Server will be just as easy.

Jason Zajac, Hewlett-Packard’s vice president of strategy for the worldwide attach group, stated, "A growing number of digital savvy households have both Windows and Mac computers, with hundreds and sometimes thousands of media files and documents scattered across these devices." It is for this reason that HP took the next step forward in creating the MediaSmart Home Server.

Hewlett-Packard has been working with Microsoft for over two years to tweak their new system, and create a close-to-perfect solution for owners of both Macs and PCs. The MediaSmart Home Server can be found for approximately six hundred dollars to eight hundred dollars, when sold retail. This is also dependent on the model chosen by the consumer.

The MediaSmart system has also been said to organize the files it is able to share between systems. Along with this great feat, the MediaSmart can also stream videos and upload photos to the internet and social media sites as well. It seems Hewlett-Packard has since solved the Apple to PC connection problem, although they are consistently striving for more. It’s hard to say what Hewlett-Packard may dish out next, or if it will include a piece of the ’Apple pie’; but it’s clear that HP is definitely a big part of our global technological advance.
